Loire a velo Day 5 : Montlouis to Candes St Martin

Fine morning in prospect after a relatively poor campsite night. Too much food at the all you can eat Chinese and too much road noise. Left the car at the campsite and headed off on part 2 of the journey down the Loire and to the Atlantic. Some redistribution of load before we left with items like waterproof trousers being taken out and new items from Decathlon being added.

A short 12km section into Tours and to the launderette (one at the now slightly disreputable Les Acasias was broken). Located and then a coffee stop next to the superb Gare which is still being refurbished. A bit of a battle out through the traffic and road system down to the Cher, as the next section followed this river down to its confluence with the Loire.

Nice route with lots of cyclists en route and we were pacing ourselves for a lunch at the Auberge du Pont in Savonnieres. Arrived at 11.30 and had an apero (pastis) followed by an excellent lunch with a local sauvignon. I chose the fish but Sophie wisely went for the chemin de fer (think cottage pie). Great spot and great lunch and then underway slowly at 13h45.

The roads south were tarmac abd gentle and a good pace as we headed west. Some shade in the woods before crossing the Indre and heading inland to Avoine and some shopping for the evening food. More backroads to the Vienne which we crossed before stopping at the campsite at Candes Saint Martin.

Somewhere around the 2* mark the site was winding down for the season close with an atmosphere of faded glory and gentle decline. Not caring where you camp, only the ladies toilets open and a lonely wandering sheep. The Camping Belle Rive wasnt exactly buzzing but a quiet location it was and a good night sleep didnt happen.
